The vortex tube creates a "mini tornado" from compressed air, which is separated into hot and cold airstreams. This compressed air enters Hot Air Outlet into the tube and passes through the generation Vortex Generation Chamber chamber to start the airflow rotating. As the air spins down the tube towards the control valve a small portion of the compressed air passes out as hot exhaust. The remaining air is forced back through the tube at a slower air speed. This cooled return air exits through the cold air exhaust port and into the enclosure. The Rittal vortex cooler has no moving parts and is commonly used for spot cooling when a compressed air source is readily available.
